Mountain Madness: Venture

Splash On!

Come on in—the water’s fine! Kick your feet, make a splash and have fun in and on our Alpine lakes! Play inner tube polo and games in funyaks, try stand-up paddle boarding, have fun on the canoe slalom course and even improve your swimming skills. Enjoy a floating lunch on beautiful Deer Lake and take an exciting day trip to West End Beach on Donner Lake for a day of fun in the sun. Splish, splash you’ll be havin’ a blast!
Passport to Adventure!

Open the door to fun and adventure as you journey into the exciting world of Deer Lake! Your “travel plans” might include stops at the lake for a swim, arts and crafts to get creative, or the new climbing tower to scale the wall. Along the way, try outdoor cooking, canoeing, hanging with new friends, archery, and so much more. You and your fellow adventurers will have the time of your life!
Sierra Seekers
| Grades 5-7 | Sessions 2, 5 | Fee $498 |
Your mission, should you choose to accept it: participate in a high-tech treasure hunting game called Geocaching, played by adventure seekers like you all over the world. First, you’ll navigate a network of obstacles while working together as a team. Climb to the top of the Vertical Playpen, paddle your way through the canoe slalom course or hit the bulls-eye in an archery team relay. With each challenge, your team will discover clues and by using a GPS device, you will solve The Great Deer Lake Mystery! Create your own geocache for other Seekers to find too.
C.H.I.L.L.!

Climb, Hang out, Imagine, Laugh and make a splash at the Lake! Hook up with new friends and enjoy all the fun of this amazing camp when you make Deer Lake your own mountain retreat. Hang out by the waterfront, go swimming or take a funyak for a spin, get creative in art, try your hand at archery, or relax around the campfire sharing talks under starry skies. With so much to choose from, you and your friends will create the ultimate summer experience!
Come Sail Away
| Grades 6-9 | Session 3 | Fee $545 |
With the wind in your hair and the sun on your face, spend your days on Kidd Lake. Balance the board, pull up a sail, navigate and experience the rush of windsurfing. Have a blast building crazy rafts and get a chance to paddle around Deer Lake. For some extra excitement, you’ll take a tour of Lake Tahoe aboard the 50-foot sailing yacht Tahoe Cruise.
Mountain Maddness: Peak

Day Trippers

Take a float trip down the Truckee River, ride up a gondola to High Camp at Squaw Valley, lace up your skates for some fun on the ice rink, and relax in the sun at West End Beach on Donner Lake. Back at camp, the adventure continues as you paddle your way around Deer Lake, sleep under the stars, and shoot some arrows on the archery range.
Mooncatchers
| Grades 4-6 | Sessions 3, 5 | Fee $498 |
Catch the moonlight and explore Deer Lake! Have fun with super cool astronomy and look for amazing shooting stars, glide over the water on twilight canoe rides, make your own mooncatcher and create a dreamboat to launch in the lake while you make a special wish. With night hikes, sleep-in breakfasts and all the fun of day-time camp activities too, you and your new friends will be over the moon for Deer Lake!
Wilderness Girls

Go wild at camp! Discover how to track wild animals, cook outdoors, make your own tools, build forts, lash chairs, and tell time by the sun. Learn wilderness techniques and survival skills that will give you a truly unique Deer Lake experience. Don’t mind a little dirt? Then grab your camp friends, come explore and have an amazing Wilderness Adventure!
Extreme Cuisine!

Outdoor cooking adventure style! You and your team of Extreme Chefs will take on the ultimate cooking challenge. Each day a mystery basket with surprise ingredients will arrive. It’s up to your teams to create gourmet appetizers, entrees, or desserts based on what you get. Using different types of cooking methods and lots of imagination, you’ll prepare your delicious dishes—and our Camp Cooks will choose their favorites. It’s cuisine extreme!
Shoot the Rapids

How adventurous are you? Grab your paddle and become part of a team as you spend 2 days rafting on the American River with qualified, experienced guides. Your group will camp out underneath the stars, explore the rapids, work together, and discover the adventurous spirit in each of you! Everyone back at camp will be waiting to hear about your amazing river adventure. Girls in this program must be able to swim face down in deep water.

Outback
| Grades 6-9 | Sessions 3, 5 | Fee $498 |
Step into the Outback for your wilderness challenge! You and your friends will set up your own backwoods campsite. Learn orienteering and advanced wilderness skills, practice lashing and build your own shelter. Try your hand at animal tracking and finding your way by the night sky. Cook many of your own meals even hold a night watch if you choose. The adventure is yours for the taking—so join us in the Outback!
Rockin Out
| Grades 4-6 | Sessions 4, 6 | Fee $580 |
Do you love to climb? You’ll get the opportunity to climb to the top of the new DL climbing tower, soar down the zip line, scramble across the monkey vines, and wobble your way through the criss cross. For a taste of climbing on real rock, you’ll head to Donner Pass with certified instructors from Alpine Skills International for a day of climbing instruction and fun. Rock on!
River Runners

Think you have what it takes to ride the rapids? We sure think you do! Come challenge some tough rapids on a half-day trip down the Truckee River on Class 2 and Class 3 rapids. As if that isn’t enough adventure, challenge yourself on the canoe slalom course, climb, hike, and swim while you’re a River Runner! Girls in this program must be able to swim face down in deep water.

CDL Survivor Extreme- Team Challenge

If you’ve already Survived once at CDL or think you are prepared for an Extreme Challenge, dare yourself to show up for this program. Your team must work together to first create your own primitive living unit. Then participate in daily challenges designed to put your teamwork to the test. Be prepared to hike, swim, paddle, climb, shoot, geo cache, and help your team navigate its way to success. And it all leads up to the ultimate challenge—conquering the high ropes course at Squaw Valley for a final team challenge. It’s an extreme adventure waiting for you!
Soarin'
| Grades 6-9 | Sessions 2, 4, 6 | Fee $520 |
Soar over the waves on Kidd Lake and sail through the air on the zip line when you bring two of your favorite Deer Lake thrills together! Spend extra time learning and improving your windsurfing skills then challenge yourself on the new climbing tower or high ropes course. Add swimming, archery, paddle boarding, outdoor cooking, time with new friends and much more. You’ll be soarin’ through summer fun and adventure—Deer Lake style!
Rock N’ River
| Grades 7-12 | Session 5 | Fee $595 |
Can’t decide if you want to raft or climb? Now you can do both! Spend one day rafting on the Truckee River and one day climbing at Donner Pass. Back at camp, build rafts with your camp friends and challenge each other to a team race across the lake. The rest of the week, have an awesome time with everything else there is to do at Deer Lake. Rafting is a float trip down the Truckee River.
Apprentice Counselor-In-Training (C.I.T.)

Find your place in camp. Use your leadership and program skills as you work under the supervision of camp staff, in units, or at your favorite specialty area. Carry out an individual project and learn more about camp management. Must have completed C.I.T. or its equivalent. The Deer Lake Adventure C.I.T is specifically focused on adventure programming (waterfront, ropes, etc.) at the Apprentice C.I.T. level.

Improve your leadership skills and learn about the needs of children in the camp setting. Explore the basics of developing and delivering camp program and camp operations. Spend some time working with younger children.

Deer Lake Family Adventure Camp

High adventure for the whole family! Come to Deer Lake for a weekend and experience all the fun and excitement of this amazing Alpine hideaway. Swim in the lake, play in the funyaks or try stand-up paddle boarding. Scale the climbing wall or fly through the trees on the zip line. From arts and crafts, archery and day hikes to campfire sing-a-longs under amazing starry skies, there’s something here for every member of the family. Try an activity led by camp staff or just spend time on your own. Special all-camp events will be offered throughout the weekend too. Make it a family adventure weekend and end your summer together!
