Sugar Pine Resident Camp

Sugar Pine resident camp comprises 160 acres of beautifully forested land in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Approximately 150 miles from San Francisco, the camp is at 4,800-foot elevation. It is the site of the second largest and tallest sugar pine tree in the world, as well as an Indian grinding stone used by Native Americans.

The camp features a variety of accommodations from open air cabins to primitive units, a high ropes course, an outdoor dining hall with commercial kitchen, art and nature centers, a modern Health Center, a gorgeous swimming pool, extensive hiking & horseback riding trails through ancient, towering pines, and much more.

Living Units

Camp Sugar Pine Tent Cabin

Sugar Pine features six living units. Nestled into the trees, one unit has open air cabins that sleep 6-8 campers on cots and mattresses. Two units offer platform tents that sleep 4-6 per tent on cots and mattresses. One unit offers the chance to sleep in towering tipis on comfy mattresses. For adventurous campers, two units have dome tents and girls enjoy a good night’s sleep on comfy mattresses. All units have campfire circles, running water, and bathrooms with flush toilets, hot showers, and electricity.

Main Camp

Camp Sugar Pine Main Camp

In the center of camp is our unique, circular dining hall, with its open air big top tent that makes every meal fun. Meals are served family style from our complete commercial kitchen. The Singing Logs outside the dining hall are the central gathering place for camper groups. The Health and Wellness Center is located near the Camp Office, facing the dining hall. The historic Great Hall and adjoining Art Barn beckon campers to come enjoy fun at the heart of Camp Sugar Pine. And towering above main camp is the camp’s namesake, the second largest sugar pine tree in the world! Find out how many campers it takes to hug this old giant.

Program Facilities

The Art Barn at Sugar Pine offers girls the opportunity to explore the best in arts and crafts. The Barn has a kiln and campers may participate in jewelry making, ceramics, painting, candle making, and many other artistic activities.

All campers have the opportunity to explore the natural environment with hands on activities in our Nature Center or in field activities that explore the many eco-systems in and around the camp. From a stream for gold panning, soaring pines, and an ancient Miwok Indian grinding rock, Sugar Pine is alive with natural wonders.

Sugar Pine also offers a meadow for sports and games, an amphitheater style campfire ropes course climbercircle and an archery range. Both a Low Element Challenge Course and a comprehensive High Adventure Ropes Course is available to all campers. These courses provide participants the opportunities to practice group communication and develop team skills while having fun. Each course has challenges and obstacles suitable for all age levels and skill abilities.

Sugar Pine is loved for its general horseback riding program. The camp offers beginning to advanced Western riding. There are two riding arenas and extensive trails to enjoy. Campers participate in ground school and learn grooming, tacking, feeding, and basics of horse care.
