Camp Butano Creek is located in an old growth redwood forest on 145 acres just seven miles from Pescadero in San Mateo County.
Our hiking trails offer a variety of short and long hikes with a connector trail to Butano State Park’s trail system. The majestic Pacific Ocean with numerous State Beaches is only fifteen-minutes by car. Our nature trail winds through a redwood grove with trees that are over 1,000 years old. It offers a great connection to the outdoors with basic comforts.
Driving time from San Francisco:
Pescadero is 15 miles south of Half Moon Bay and approximately an hour drive from San Francisco.
Facilities Overview
Total Camp Capacity: 150 people/night
Sleeping Shelters: Three modern sleeping cabins (Sequoia, Penny Royal, Redwood). Each cabin has a maximum sleeping capacity of 25. Each cabin has a wood-burning stove. Outdoor covered cooking shelters are provided that include a barbecue, picnic tables and counter space. A centrally located shower/toilet building is shared between Sequoia and Penny Royal cabins. Redwood has indoor toilets. All gear must be carried from the unloading areas to the shelters. Wheel carts are available from the site manager.
Huckleberry: Four platform tents (4 beds/tent) for overnight use. An outdoor cooking area is provided and includes a barbecue, picnic tables, food storage. The unit has its own water and flush toilets. Capacity is 24.
Toyon: Five tent platforms (4 beds/tent). It includes picnic tables, cooking area, barbecue, water and flush toilets. Capacity is 30.
Dining Hall: Fully functional commercial kitchen and dining hall is available and has a capacity of 150. Users must provide trained cooks with a state food handler’s certification.
Laurel Cabin: Sleeps 34 in large dining/sleeping room. Day use capacity is 45. Also includes a meeting room with fireplace, one adult sleeping room, toilets and showers (indoor and outdoor). FOR LARGE GROUPS, Laurel Cabin serves as the central camp cooking and dining facility, serving a maximum of 45 per seating. The kitchen has stoves, refrigerator, freezer and cooking and eating equipment to serve the listed dining capacity. It is not possible to drive to Laurel Cabin. All cars must park in the lot provided and carry gear approximately 50 yards across the bridge to the cabin.
Local Attractions Sampler:
- Año Nuevo State Park is home to thousands of elephant seals.
- Pescadero State Beach has a mile-long shoreline with sandy coves, rocky cliffs, tide pools, fishing spots and picnic facilities.
- Pescadero Marsh Natural Preserve is a popular spot for bird watchers and other naturalists. The Preserve is a refuge for blue heron, kites, deer, raccoons, foxes and skunks.
