About Jewel of a Woman 2009
Since 1992, the Girl Scouts of Northern California has held its annual Jewel of a Woman fundraising event. This fun-filled evening honors women selected for their service in the community and for being an excellent role model for young girls.
It is with great pleasure that GSNC announces its seventeenth Jewel of a Woman award honoree, Kay Marquet, a wonderful role model who has helped innumerable non-profits by connecting them to local philanthropists. She was instrumental in developing and distributing millions of dollars to non-profits throughout Sonoma County, California as President/CEO of the Community Foundation Sonoma County. The impact of resources and services brought to the community include: receipt of a bequest from Charles DeMeo for the building of Chop’s Teen Club, five years of work with Shelter Solutions on a new homeless shelter, plus expanding other shelters/services, and an arts endowment which funded programs.
About Marcy Smothers, Emcee
Marcy Smothers, this year’s program emcee and Jewel of a Woman in 2003, is an ordinary
person with extraordinary curiosity. Her culinary enthusiasm is the focus of her career in broadcasting and blogging. Marcy has been a local News/Talk show host on KSRO, was a frequent guest host on KGO in San Francisco and joined forces with the Food Network’s Guy Fieri in 2007 and created the nationally syndicated radio program Food Guy and Marcy. She blogs about her epicurean exploits at foodwineandmarcy.com; Marcy’s Video Adventures is a popular channel on YouTube.
