Help Girl Scouts in the Future - Plan for It Today

It can be as simple as naming Girl Scouts of Northern California as a beneficiary in your will or IRA.

What is Planned Giving?

Thank you for considering a deferred gift to Girl Scouts of Northern California. Please use this information to help in your legacy planning to meet your philanthropic goals. The information provided is for illustrative purposes only and should not be considered investment, legal, accounting, tax, or other professional advice. Please consult your own legal and/or financial advisor.

Join our Forever Green Circle

Girl Scouts of Northern California honors the generosity and vision of those who have chosen to include GSNorCal in their estate plans. To become a member, or for more information, contact Stephanie Chew, Senior Director of Gifts, at (800) 447-4475, ext. 1502, or schew@girlscoutsnorcal.org.

How do I join the Forever Green Circle?

Enrolling is simple. The only qualification for membership is to advise Girl Scouts of Northern California that a gift has been made in your estate plans. You do not need to disclose the type of gift, nor is it necessary to specify the gift amount. Legacy gifts can take many forms, including:

  • Wills or trusts
  • Retirement Plans or Insurance Assets
  • Charitable Trusts

What if I don't want people to know about my estate plans?

You may still be a Forever Green Circle member. We are happy to honor your wish to be anonymous and all information about your gift will remain confidential.

What are the benefits of becoming a Legacy Society member?

  • Invitations to regional events
  • Recognition on our donor wall at the Alameda office
  • Recognition in annual reports and other forms of printed and permanent recognition, unless anonymity is requested
  • A lifetime subscription to Inspire, our semi-annual newsletter highlighting Girl Scout programs and events in Northern California

Bequests

Bequests via a will or trust are the most popular way to make a legacy gift that will support Girl Scouting into the future. From the time you create your first will, you can include Girl Scouts of Northern California. Let us help you – we’ll show you how!

Sample Bequest Language:

I give the sum of [$______________] [___% of my estate] [describe real or personal property, including exact location] for the benefit of Girl Scouts of Northern California (Tax I.D. 94-1551410) to be used where the need is greatest.

Retirement Plans or Insurance Assets

You may designate Girl Scouts of Northern California as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy, an Individual Retirement Account, or a savings account.

Beneficiary designations are the easiest ways to make a Legacy Gift. All you have to do is fill out a beneficiary designation form provided by your financial advisor.

When completing this form, simply name Girl Scouts of Northern California as a full or partial beneficiary, and provide GSNorCal’s tax identification number (#94-1551410).

Here are some common designation options:

  • Retirement plans [examples:  traditional IRA, Keogh, 401(k), 403(b)]
  • Life Insurance policies
  • Savings accounts

Designation Options

What are my options for designating my gift?

Girl Scouts of Northern California can accept unrestricted as well as some restricted use donations that assist current strategic program priorities. The important thing to remember in gift designation planning is to ensure that the language used to describe it can be easily interpreted by Girl Scouts of Northern California and your estate executor, and can be used in accordance with GSNorCal’s Gift Acceptance Policies.

Examples of gift designations:

  • Wherever the need is greatest
  • Opportunity Fund (financial aid fund)
  • Property Reserve Fund (Girl Scout property maintenance and improvements)

Charitable Trusts

Charitable Trust examples include annuities and unitrusts. We can help put you in touch with professionals.

Sample Trust Language:

The Trustee shall distribute [the remainder of the trust estate] [______% of the remainder of the trust estate] [$_____] [description of a particular asset held by the trust] to be used where the need is greatest at Girl Scouts of Northern California, Tax ID 94-1551410].
