journey_with_me_150Each Journey offers girls a new adventure, allowing them to Discover, Connect and Take Action with fun activities, discussions, projects and more! Currently, Girl Scouts offers three unique Journey series - all covering a wide variety of topics.

Journeys are the core framework to the GSLE, and they're available for each Girl Scout grade level. And, they can be customized for each girl! Each Journey comes as a set, providing the adult leaders with a handbook full of fun ideas, useful activities, discussion topics and more. At the end of each Journey, girls will also have the chance to earn their Journey awards and patches to display on their uniforms. Leadership_Keys

The journeys offer girls all the leadership benefits that we’ve promised them and the badges offer them the chance to build specific skills. When a girl goes on a journey, she gets to explore leadership from all different angles. How does a leader identify a problem that needs to be solved?  How does she dig deeper to find the root causes of that issue? How does she research solutions that go beyond the surface level of the problem? And how does she team with others on all of the above, multiplying efforts to make the world a better place? That’s what the journeys are all about! The journeys aim at all three keys to leadership: Discover, Connect and Take Action.

Girl's Guide to Girl Scouting - is Here!

The Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting, (or GGGS) a brand-new girl handbook, has one book  for each program level - Daisy through Ambassador. Although described as a book for girls, this book is considered to be a sufficient leader resource as well.

This book has three main sections:

  • Girl Scout Traditions
  • Cookie Sale Program Activities
  • Earned Awards (badges, religious awards, Bronze, Silver, Gold)

Each girl will want her own copy since the “Girl’s Guide” will contain information such as:

  • Girl Scout history
  • Girl Scout traditions
  • What’s special about being a Girl Scout
  • List of emblems and awards
(i.e. membership stars, GSUSA strip, council strip, etc.)
  • Awards log
  • Diagram of sash/vest with badge placement
  • Bridging award requirements for relevant program level
  • Bronze, Silver, Gold Award requirements for relevant program levels
  • Additional program information for each level such as Program Aide or Counselor in Training info
  • Journey map for relevant program level
  • Map showing all the councils and special Girl Scout places (i.e., the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace, World Centers, etc.)

They're Here!

Journey Badge Activity Sets for Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes and Seniors have arrived and are available for purchase in your local Girl Scout shop or on line at www.girlscoutsnorcal.org/shop

Each Badge Activity Set consists of five badges that are linked to a specific journey. Each badge has five steps to earn it and within each step are three choices. The girls may choose one or they may do all three of them. That will depend on their interest and the time they have to complete the badge. It is not necessary for the girls to be working on a journey to earn any of these skill-building badges.

To help you and the girls in your troop make informed decisions about which Badge Activity Sets or individual badges they would like to work on here are some summaries of each.   Click on the title, download, and print the summary.

These are merely summaries.  To get details of how to earn each badge you must purchase the Badge Activity Set from your local Girl Scout Shop or shop on line at www.girlscoutsnorcal.org/shop.

Now that this new resource is available, existing resources are still valid and available to use. If you have questions about which resources are being discontinued, click here.  Here are some handouts to ponder:

Ceremonies: Are the girls in your troop ready to bridge to the next level? Do they want to learn a flag ceremony? Have they earned awards and want to plan a ceremony and celebration?
