Adults providing supervision at the booth should check to make sure that:
- There is adequate space to set up the booth (table, cookies, and people) to allow for safe passage by pedestrians, bicycles, and cars.
- The booth is not blocking the store entrance/exit.
- The booth area is sufficiently set back from the street or parking lot to allow girls to be a safe distance from cars.
- If the booth is to be set up near a street or parking lot, try to set up behind a safety barrier – some volunteers try to park their cars in parking spaces near the booth location.
- If possible, set up the booth in such a way so that the cash is not readily accessible (for example, set up against a wall or create a barrier with the cookie boxes). It is suggested that adults hold the money in a front pack that they wear - girls can collect and hand the money to adult supervisors, and calculate the necessary change needed.
We realize that conditions vary widely across our Council and in each instance volunteers should use their good judgment and training to assess booth locations and set up.

The Internet
- Girl Scouts, and Girl Scouts’ families cannot sell cookies (take orders, or process financial transactions) on the internet, however girls are encouraged to use new technologies such as email, and text messaging as a marketing tool to contact family, friends, and previous customers to let them know that it’s cookie time!
Money Management
- Always have a plan for safeguarding money—avoid walking around with large amounts of it or keeping it at home or school.
- Give proceeds to supervising adults who should deposit it as soon as possible.
