Girls Go Tech Giving Circle

America will need three million more scientists and engineers by 2025. While college graduation rates for women are at an all-time high, too few women are choosing careers in science and technology.

Girls Go Tech can fill this pipeline by encouraging girls to develop an early interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) – an ultimately maintain that interest throughout college and into the workforce. Last year, 5,600 girls participated in Girls Go Tech programs for girls in K-12 and 85% of them report an increased interest in pursuing STEM careers (based on third-party evaluations). Our after-school programs are hands-on and include exposure to role models and field trips – elements that research shows are critical to keeping girls interested in STEM and STEM careers.

The Girls Go Tech Giving Circle is made up of organizations who know we can do more when we work together to achieve our shared goal – more girls interested in and pursuing careers in STEM.

Our goal is to raise $220,000 from an alliance of tech companies to help us deliver 6 week after-school STEM programs to 2,000 girls in 100 Title 1 schools (between now and June 2015) and continue to invest in curriculum evaluation and development.  The need is great.  There are 1,100 Title 1 schools in the 7 Bay Area counties, including 307 in Santa Clara County, which has the largest number of Title 1 schools of any county in the Bay Area. To qualify as a Title 1 school, a minimum of 40% of students in the school, or residing in the attendance area served by the school, are from low-income families.
