Business Smarts

From mastering her own finances to finding the path to the corner office, Girl Scouts discover their inner biz-wiz through exercises in entrepreneurship, team work and goal setting.  Along the way they gain experiences in public speaking, money and credit management skills and investing and savings know-how.

Please consider a gift to support Girl Scouts of Northern California's mission to build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. Below are examples of how your support can help Girl Scouts achieve its mission. Gifts are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Please consult your tax advisor as individual situations vary.

$50 could sponsor a girl to attend a 1-1/2 day BizWorld camp to learn about entrepreneurship.  Last fall, Girl Scouts partnered with the BizWorld Foundation for the first time ever and over an intense 1-1/2 day period, engaged 40 girls from underserved communities in a business simulation program.  We would love to be able to offer this to more girls.
$225 could support an 11-week Business Smarts program for a teen mom to learn money management skills and the importance of saving for the future.  During 2008, Girl Scouts helped 72 teen moms in Oakland, Hayward, and San Francisco lay the groundwork for financial independence.
$500 could cover the cost of supplies for a group of 30 girls from underserved communities participating in an 8-week financial literacy program - supplies like notebooks, sample checkbooks, calculators and business simulation materials.
$1,250 could sponsor a girl to participate in a two week "GreenBiz" entrepreneurship camp.  We are offering this camp for the first time ever this summer in partnership with NFTE (The National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship) and our Girl Scouts Save the Bay program.
$5,000 could create a "cookie university" - We would love to rent a community college and connect girls and business executives to take their business literacy skills developed through the cookie program to a whole new level.
